The SLACAR sponsored 3rd non-motorized Poker Run on July 20th, 2024, was a great success once again bringing together families, friends & a fun lake activity! With over 40 registrants this year, the lake was busy with 5 station stops, a few treats along the way, and the final stop with a great poker hand won by Juliann! Paddler Claire won the kid's raffle with a Kawartha Dairy prize - congrats to Juliann and Claire!
Juliann designated her portion of the charity win to the Abbey Gardens Cancer Retreat Centre. AND ... in a lovely gesture, donated the remaining amount that she might have kept, to the Minden Heat Bank! Juliann ... that was incredibly special, thank you for your kindness and generosity to these very meaningful local causes
A warm and big thank you to all of the Poker Run organizers, station stops, post gathering hosts & organizers, hot dog donors, master of the bbq Bruce, best chocolate chip cookie baker, and, lastly our South Lake participants ... see you again next year. (Contributed by Pat Donaldson)
2018 CORN ROAST
Despite the weather, the Annual Corn Roast was very successful.
On behalf of all SLACAR members a huge THANK YOU to Lynda and Randy Cook for opening their property for the event. Their daughter Laura did a great job entertaining the kids with a variety of games. Thank you to Judy and John Flanagan for donating many prizes for the kid's games.
A huge thank you to all those who volunteered their time to cook corn, barbeque hot dogs, organize the Loonie Auction and the Horseshoe Tournament and for donations to the Loonie Auction and the Food Bank.
BUT, most of all thanks to everyone that came out and supported the event and made the day a success!
